Because I am, after all, The Anglophilic Anglican: a while ago, I posted a link to a video on the art of laying a hedge in the classical English style. Now, here’s a post on another almost-forgotten traditional English art: the art of thatching a roof!
A frequently-asked question is “how long to thatched roofs like this actually last?” So, from a comment on that precise question: “the lifespan of water-reed thatch is about 30 years, combed wheat is about 30 years, and straw is about 20 years. It’s not unknown for thatched roofs with regular maintenance to last up to 60 years, though!” And now you know, to quote the late Paul Harvey, “the rest… of the story!”
